Geranium essential oil

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are the essence of a plant: a highly concentrated liquid. These natural plant essences are extracted from: leaves, fruit, flowers, bark, rind, wood, seeds, and roots. They can be used for a variety of things, not just for aromatherapy, but also as natural pesticides as well as herbal, culinary, and perfumery applications. Our oils are primarily for aromatherapy. Capture the amazing scents and key health benefits of each plant essence. These premium essential oils are 100% pure and extracted from nature’s botanicals to improve the mind, body, and spirit. At 100 times stronger than the plants the essential oils came from, these oils are extremely concentrated. Therefore, you will almost always use them diluted, so definitely do not use them on your bare skin.

Avoid using a lot – a little goes a long way.

And Breathe

How do essential oils work?

Do you want to soothe your mind when stressed or up against a deadline? Give yourself a body pick-me-up when you feel sluggish? Simply diffuse and breathe in these 100% pure essential oils. They balance your mood to help you focus, or just make your room smell naturally fantastic. These powerful and therapeutic oils are formulated especially for aromatherapy and should not be ingested. They provide an amazing scent and health benefits including relief from everyday anxiety, stress, depression, muscle pain, and congestion. They also help improve focus, grounding, and sleep quality, as well as reduce headaches – to name a few.

When you breathe in essential oil aromas, they affect both the emotional brain, which is responsible for emotions and memories. Therefore, they affect things such as mood: decreasing depression or anxiety, for example. They aid in relaxation which can help in rejuvenating you by promoting deep slumber. As they are processed in the cortex (the thinking brain responsible for physical states), they affect even autonomic functions such as blood pressure, respiration, and cognitive ability.

With this guide, you will quickly learn how to use the essential oils you received in various applications across your day-to-day life. What makes essential oils such a great wellness tool is how quickly you can incorporate them into your daily life.

How do you choose the essential oil that’s right for you?

Smell the oils and select the one(s) that appeal to you the most. Expect this to potentially change over time. If you do not like the smell of a particular oil, then that oil is not right for you at this time. Follow your nose and have fun connecting with the individual plant notes. You can also blend multiple oils harmoniously together to create your own mix of what you need at the moment. After starting to use essential oils you’ll notice the benefits to your body, mind, spirit, and space around you. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself using them multiple times a week. We hope that you enjoy this natural essential oil experience we put together for you.

Uses for Essential Oils Diffuser
Use These Guided Experiences To Incorporate Essential Oils In Your Daily Living:

Have fun with your oils. Experiment. Research online for great recipes for all sorts of applications.

  • Freshen Indoor Air: Get a cold air diffuser to liven up your indoor air. Some of our all time favorite combinations are: 1) Eucalyptus, Lime, Ylang Ylang 2) Sweet Orange & Ylang Ylang. What will yours be? Try 10 gtts. (medical abbreviation for drops) of peppermint and 15 gtts. of rosemary in an 8-ounce spray bottle with 2 tablespoons vodka. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then shake well. Add 6 tablespoons of filtered water. Shake again and spritz whenever you need a little pick-me-up. Try this peppermint and rosemary duo when you need to stay focused and on task. Try other oil blends for different desired outcomes. Want to give your air freshener odor eating capabilities? Simply add ½ teaspoon of baking soda together with your favorite essential oil and shake well before each use. You can also use essential oils with jewelry, electrical wall plug ins as well as USB devices in your car or at home. Why use anything other than natural aroma now? There are way too many toxic aroma products on the market and they certainly do not help people feel better in the long run. Use natural where you can, to offset where you can’t.
  • Outdoor Living: Use essential oils to keep the bugs away. Just put a few drops on your cushions (test patch for staining or place on a piece of paper towel, cotton pad, or use a diffuser device). Rub all over to invigorate the aroma. Enjoy your outdoor oasis in the calmness of the evening without getting overrun with bugs. Our favorites for this purpose are Lemongrass, Peppermint, and Rosemary.
  • Sticky Residue Removal: Just drop or two of pure Lime essential oil onto the tacky substance or price tag you are wanting to remove. Let it dwell for a couple minutes and you’ll notice how easy it will go away. Just be careful you test the material before you apply – you would not want to strip paint off your grandmother’s antique furniture!
  • Bed Time: Settle your kids down for a good night sleep, with a couple drops of Lavender on their linen and pillow case. You can even make it go longer by making a natural spray with 1 teaspoon witch hazel (or vodka), 5-6 drops of lavender essential oil, and ½ cup distilled water. Shake it up and spritz away!
  • Inhalation Therapy: Add 1-2 drops to a tissue or cotton pad and take some slow mindful deep breathes. You can also use a warm hot towel. Fill your sink with hot water and add a couple of drops of your desired essential oil. Place a face or hand towel in the sink to soak. When water is at a comfortable temperature, grab the towel, fold it in half, and roll it up. Wring out the towel as best you can while keeping the heat in due to it being rolled up. Unfold the towel over your face and compress it down on your face, while taking those deep rhythmic breaths. On the flip side, when it’s hot outside and you need to cool down, go for ice cold water on your towels and something refreshing like sweet orange.
  • Natural Perfume: Apply one drop of your favorite essential oil, to five drops of carrier oil, such as grapeseed or rice bran. Apply as you would perfume, to the side of your neck and inner wrists. Did you know you can add a couple drops of your favorite essential oils to lava bead and wood bead jewelry?
  • Executive Office: Do you have an office space with a closed door? Plug in the diffuser and enjoy your own signature scent that keeps you grounded, focused, and motivated.
  • Study and Concentration: Oils such as Peppermint, Sweet Orange, and Rosemary are great to help you focus. Make a roll-on solution, a spritzer, or simply diffuse.
  • Ridding Household Smells: When was the last time you turned your nose up to your garbage can’s smell? Simply drop in 3 drops Tea Tree and 3 drops Lime to the bottom of your garbage can, before you put your bag in. Instant refresher. Try one drop on a face mask, while you clean out the cat litter box. These are instant game changers!
  • Naturally Non-Toxic Cleaners: It’s so simple to add ¼ cup vinegar, a dash of dish soap, and 8-10 drops of Lemongrass or Lime. Fill a spray bottle with water and mixture. Powerful stuff. Try wiping out the fridge with it and your countertops as well. Everything shines.
  • Setting The Mood: Looking to spend some intimate time with your significant other? Some oils such as Ylang Ylang and Lavender are perfect for this! Make a massage oil, or a bath soak for two. You can even diffuse the oil and light some candles.
  • Steam: Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of boiled water and inhale the steam by placing a towel over the head to create a steam chamber. Or use them in your personal steam or sauna. Eucalyptus is always a popular choice for respiratory conditions such as asthma and sinusitis. The camphoraceous oil reacts with the mucous membranes, not only reducing mucus, but helping loosen it so that you can cough it up. Tea Tree and Peppermint are also commonly used.
  • Diffuse: Essential oil diffusers disperse the oil into the air. This is a gentle way to inhale essential oils continuously while at home, on the go, or at the office. You can even find jewelry that contains lava stone or wooden beads that are perfect for holding your favorite scent.
  • In The Bath: Make sure you add the essential oil into a carrier oil or dispersant, prior to adding in water, as pure undiluted essential oils are not water soluble. Otherwise they will not last as long or may get uncomfortably hot in a chemical reaction with your skin, resulting in an irritation. Make a bath soak with a dispersant such as epsom salts, oil, or milk. Add 3 to 6 drops of essential oil for a full tub. Try 1 part baking soda, 2 parts epsom salts, and 3 parts sea salt. Mix well in a shatterproof bowl and add into the bathtub just before you enter it. You can also blend 5 to 20 drops of essential oil with a tablespoon of vegetable carrier oil (such as rice bran or sunflower oil), and put it into the water right before you enter. You can massage this oil onto your skin as you enjoy the bath soak.
  • Breathing Techniques: While enjoying the essential oils, take a moment to appreciate them and the long journey they have had (from seed), to arrive in this bottle, for you. Try the 4-7-8 breathing. It helps to calm your parasympathetic nervous system. Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4, hold for a count of 7, and exhale out your mouth, for a count of 8. Repeat this breathing for a few repetitions and as long as needed. Really engage your diaphragm. Relax. Let your shoulders drop from your ears. Stop depressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth, to loosen the jaw. You’ll find many great videos online to help with guided deep breathing if you need further assistance.

Blending Essential Oils:

When exploring making your own blend – look at the properties of the essential oils and see if they match up with the benefits you are looking to achieve. Start with different oils that can work and then wean out oils by contraindications. Perfumists and aromatherapists have the art of blending down to a science. Creating a balanced aroma is all in the eye of the beholder, as not everyone likes the same smells. So really go with your intuition and pleasure.

A great place to start is a union of the 3 types of notes, being Top, Middle, and Base. An essential oil’s “note” is the feature that distinguishes how long its scent will last. The oils with the smallest molecules are the first to evaporate – these are the top notes. Oils with large, heavy molecules – are the slowest and last to evaporate; these are the base notes. The middle notes take time to open up and help to blend and harmonize the top and the base note together. Aim for a blending ratio of 30% top note, 50% middle note, and 20% base note. Essential oils can also be categorized by one of 8 major scents – Citrus, Floral, Herbaceous, Camphoraceous, Minty, Spicy, Resinous, Musky, Woody, and Earthy. Certain scents go best together. You can use this as a guide.

  • Citrus goes well with Floral, Minty, Spicy, or Woody
  • Floral goes well with Citrus, Spicy, or Woody
  • Herbaceous goes well with Minty or Woody
  • Camphoraceous goes well with Citrus, Spicy, Woody/Earthy, or Herbaceous
  • Minty goes well with Citrus, Woody/Earthy, or Herbaceous
  • Spicy goes well with Citrus Floral, or Woody/Earthy

Essential Oil

Essential Oil Safety and Storage

It is important to recall that these essential oils are pure and not mixed with any carrier oil. Their molecular structure enables them to penetrate very deep into the skin and thus the bloodstream, so they must be used and stored with the utmost attention, as some oils can be toxic on bare skin. Just a couple of drops will do just fine. Less is always more. It is important you heed any contraindications and consult with a medical physician if you are unsure. For example: if you are on a special medication that requires you to keep away from stimulants, or have high blood pressure, you’ll want to avoid stimulating essential oils, such as rosemary. You would not want to make body oil with a diluted essential oil that can leave your skin sensitive to the sun when heading out to the beach. So, be creative but please make sure you learn how to use them correctly and safely first. Contact us with any questions you may have.

You must use caution as all essential oils are highly flammable and should never be stored near sources of excessive heat, fire, or open flames. Correct storage of the oils is important to protect the products and prevent accidents. Always keep essential oils away from children and pets. You need to make sure you keep your oils stored out of direct sunlight to not degrade their efficiency, and you should only purchase and store pure essential oils in darker colored glass – as this helps to protect from solar and light source-based UV exposure. Keep the caps on tight to avoid oxidation from exposure to air.

If using essential oils transdermally on your skin, make sure the essential oil is diluted with a dispersant. You should keep concentration levels of essential oils below 5% and 1% for children. Diluting at 1% is equivalent to adding 6 drops of essential oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil; for example. Do a test on the inside of your elbow or wrist, to see how your skin responds for 24 hours. (Carrier oils are typically vegetable-based oil and their job is to carry the essential oil safely onto your skin and help you spread it over a large surface area.) You should never put the oils on the skin neat, as the results could feel like a burning or “hot” sensation and can make the skin appear red, dry, and irritated. Should this reaction happen, avoid rinsing with water; instead neutralize with some natural vegetable oil or milk.

If you are smelling too much essential oil and it’s starting to give you a headache or making you light headed, take a whiff of some coffee beans to reset your olfactory nervous system.

Do not ingest or apply undiluted essential oils to mucous membranes. Be cautious with photo toxicity. With certain medication, when you apply photosensitive essential oils transdermally, the oil can react with UV rays. This can result in photo toxicity; producing sunburn, blisters, and other skin problems. If applying, wait 18 hours before exposure and make sure to not apply it daily. Keep oils away from eyes. If unintentional exposure to the eyes occurs, rinse first with mild or vegetable oil, then water. Always seek medical advice if you are unsure of any contraindications.

* External use only. Avoid eye area. Use with carrier oil for application to skin. Keep away from heat & light.
* Avoid in large concentrations. Caution when using on children (use low dilutions).
* We provide general guidelines for use. If you are pregnant or think you might be, please consult your doctor before using ANY essential oils.
